The more I use the Sony NEX-7, the more I like it. One thing that really makes the NEX-7 stand out among competitors is the ability to capture HD video at 1080/60p (i.e., 59.94 progressive frames per second). This makes for smooth motion, but also gives you the option to conform to footage to a slower frame rate and get some cool slow motion in your 24p projects.

I was hoping that Apple would add support for additional codecs with Final Cut Pro X, like the relatively new (yet, increasingly popular) AVCHD 2.0; however, it did not. As a result, working with

60p AVCHD 2.0 footage with FCP brings a bit of a problem when importing the files from your NEX-7 camera.

So, working with AVCHD 2.0 files at 60p requires another step to get the footage into FCP 6/7/X. The quick workaround is to use Brorsoft

MTS/M2TS Converter for Mac to convert Sony NEX-7 1080 60p MTS files. With this Mac AVCHD footage converter, you can transcode AVCHD MTS to Apple ProRes, the well-acknowledged optimal editing format for FCP, saving trouble and time for rendering, as ProRes video will be processed by Final Cut Pro natively. Plus, you can also convert AVCHD to AIC .mov, MPEG-2, DNxHD, which are fully compatible with iMovie/FCE, Adobe Premiere, Avid Media Composer, etc. Below is how.

Step 1: Load Sony NEX-7 1080p MTS to Mac MTS to ProRes Converter

Use a card reader to copy and transfer the .mts files to iMac hard drive disk, and run

Mac Sony MTS Converter. Click the “Add” button to load the .mts videos. You can also use the drag-and-drop method to load the 1080p .mts files to the application UI.

Step 2. Choose output format

Press “Format” option and navigate the mouse cursor to choose “Format > Final Cut Pro > Apple ProRes 422 (*.mov)” as the best codec for FCP 6/7 and FCP X on Mac. The Mac Sony MTS converter will transcode Sony NEX-F7 MTS to FCP 6/7 or FCP X compatible MOV with ProRes as video codec in HD 1920×1080.

Step 3. You can click “settings” button in the main interface to customize the output video’s parameters, such as resolution, frame rate, etc.

Step 4: Start the conversion

Click the “Convert” icon under the preview window, and the Mac MTS to ProRes Converter will start transcode NEX-7 1080 50p/60p MTS to Prores MOV for Final Cut Pro on Mac.

After the conversion, click the “Open” button to locate converted files. You can then import the transcoded 60P AVCHD files into Final Cut Pro 6/7 or FCP X for editing like an ordinary .MOV file (i.e., File > Import > Files…).

Additional Tips:

1. If you are also a FCP X user, before you try to do the conversion, don’t forget to make sure that you have installed the
support.apple.com/kb/DL1396]Apple ProRes Codec manually since the FCP X asks users to install it by themselves.
